The Final (Overlooked) Factor in Successful 
Body Transformations
Part 5 of 5 in a Series: Guidance

You have heard the old adage "If you fail to plan, then you are planning to fail." 

Nothing could be more true when it comes to taking on a Body Transformation Program. It doesn't matter if you want to burn as much fat as possible, build as much muscle as your genetics allow, or both...If you want to really change the way you look (and feel) but you are just going to "wing it," then you can forget about achieving your goals. You need Guidance.

You don't want to go about it with the mind set of "I'll start working out" or "I'll do a little more cardio" or "I'll try to eat a little better."  Those aren't measureable tasks nor are they a "plan" by any means. Those are half-hearted statements that will undoubtedly manifest themselves into a half-heated effort.  And with all of that, you will be LUCKY if you achieve half-heated results.

What you need is a fully integrated program that includes all of the previous four factors in this series (resistance trainingcardio worknutrition, etc.).  This is the true reason why programs like Body-for-Life and P90X work so well. It's not that they have uncovered anything magical or new. They are providing workouts and nutrition programs filled with health and fitness concepts as old as time (although with great marketing and fantastic packaging). They provide you with a full plan of attack. The only difference between those who are successful at them and those who aren't is ACTION. 

In addition to including the 4 other Factors of Body Transformation, you plan has to have one HUGE variable for you to be successful at it...You have to enjoy it and be driven to follow through.  If you find it to be to much of a chore and there isn't any ounce of "Fun" factor included, you won't last and you won't reach your goals.

It doesn't matter where you draw your plan from just make sure of the following:

  • Your plan includes some form of resistance training
  • Your plan includes some form of cardio-vascular training
  • Your plan guides has a nutrition component that matches your goals
  • It is something you find some form of enjoyment in doing
  • Last but not least....You Have Some Form of a Real Plan!!!

Taking It One Step Further

The more customized your program is for you, the better your results will be.

When you combine an effective fitness program with proper nutrition, supplementation and accountability, you can make incredible changes.  Although doing it on your own will provide some with great success, I encourage everyone to work with a Fitness Professional.

Why? 

It is the job of your Fitness Professional to give you the right amount and type of work for your goal and ability. However, your body is naturally driven to adapt to this workload (i.e. plateau). A plateau occurs when the body adjusts to changes in internal and/or external conditions or circumstances. Science is still unable to predict when a person will plateau, but one thing is for certain – it will happen.

Doing the same type of exercise without variation or failing to increase the challenge when your body "adapts" to the present workload, are just two examples of conditions that will steer your results to a complete halt. In order to avoid a plateau during your transformation, your Fitness Professional should make changes in your exercise routine or eating habits to help you reach the next level. The best way is not to do more of the same, but try new exercises or change the frequency, intensity, or duration of the routine. 

Even though a Fitness Professional individualizes each of the components necessary to begin the journey toward your goal, it does not end there. There are many factors that may affect when and how significantly the other four components will need to be manipulated to keep you on the path to success. A Fitness Professional can help you avoid plateaus by keeping your body in a caloric deficit (adaptation period) until you look the way you want. 

A truly successful Body Transformation can only be accomplished by following all 5 Components and correctly applying the information provided for you.
