Are You Gluten Intolerant?
An excerpt from the August 26th issue of my "Body Breakthrough" Newsletter.

One of the hot topics over the past couple of years in the nutrition industry has been gluten intolerance or insensitivity. Is this something you should be paying attention to? Maybe.

While those who suffer from gluten intolerance do tend to react more negatively than those who just have insensitivity, whatever your case happens to be, if you suffer either of these conditions you need to be careful to avoid gluten in your diet.

You may have heard about both of these conditions before, but just what to do they entail?

Let’s have a look at the key symptoms:

Stomach Pain/Discomfort

The very first issue that many people who are gluten intolerant will experience is stomach pain or discomfort. Note that in some people gluten intolerance simply shows up as gas or bloating, while in others, severe stomach pain may be present that prevents them from functioning normally.

Each person reacts to gluten intolerance slightly differently, so there’s no must-have symptom here with regards to how it impacts you.

Neurological Symptoms

The next issue that you may find you suffer from if you can’t eat gluten is neurological symptoms. Some people will find they have difficulty focusing or concentrating, while others may feel really foggy brained.

They’ll report feeling like their thoughts are processing far more slowly than normal and like they can’t sustain attention to any degree.

These symptoms can come and go, but for many, are a part of everyday life if they’re eating gluten.

Joint Pain

Joint pain is another common side effect of eating gluten that some people experience and can present itself in any of the main joints in the body.

In some cases it may only come on during exercise, while in others it’s a chronic ache that’s always there.

Joint pain is something that you need to be aware of with this condition and not rule it out as many people will suspect other conditions when suffering from this problem.

Fatigue/Weakness

Finally, fatigue or a general feeling of weakness is also quite common in those who are suffering from gluten intolerance so that’s yet another side effect to know about.

If you feel like you hardly have enough energy to get out of bed and that feeling doesn’t pass, try eliminating gluten and see if the problem resides.

So there you have some of the biggest warning signs that you may be gluten intolerant. Do your best to pay attention to these and consider avoiding gluten for a while if you are suffering to see if they improve.
